Code of Conduct

Thank you so much for being part of our community theatre! We want everyone to have a wonderful experience working with us, so please take a moment to look this document over so that we can maintain a fun, collaborative environment and create a great show!

Teamwork

Theatre is collaborative. Each production creates its own community of artists working together to create something from nothing. We work as a team; succeed or fail as a team; and are only as strong as our weakest link.

When you accept a role in a show, you’re making a commitment to every other member of the cast and crew. We rely on each other to conduct ourselves professionally and to perform our roles to the best of our abilities.

Respectful Conduct

We strive to create a safe and respectful environment for our casts and crew. We will not tolerate any form of discrimination, harassment, or violence.

Be respectful of other actors and their processes; of the crew and the work they do behind the scenes; and of the spaces we occupy. Please put your phones on silent, stay quiet while offstage, and minimize distractions and interruptions. Treat props and costumes with care, and only handle those that are assigned to you. Do not eat in costume. Clean up any messes you make, and leave the rehearsal and performance spaces as you found them.

Attendance

Actors are required to attend all performances, and all rehearsals to which you are called. Discuss any existing or potential scheduling conflicts with your director as early as possible. Last minute problems are much more difficult to solve.

Please arrive on time to rehearsal, and be prepared and focused on the work. Under no circumstances should you come to rehearsal or performance under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs, nor may you bring them into a rehearsal or performance space.

Actors must check-in with the stage manager upon arrival at the theatre before every performance. All cell phones must be left offstage, and must be turned off during performances.

Professionalism

Actors are expected to write down acting and blocking notes given by the director in their scripts or in a notebook. Please bring a pencil with you to rehearsal, or ask the stage manager to borrow one.

You are expected to learn your lines at home. If you are an auditory learner, and would like to audio-record the show, please speak with your director before the first read-through. Please refer to your rehearsal schedule for “off book” and “no more line calls” dates.

Never ad lib or change the script. It’s disrespectful to the playwright, to your castmates, and to your audience.

Safety & Wellness

Please be mindful of your personal safety and the safety of the crew and your fellow castmates. If you feel unsafe or require safety equipment (e.g. kneepads, mats, etc.), please speak with the director, stage manager, or producer so that we can find an appropriate and effective solution. Report any injuries to the director and stage manager immediately.

Never attempt physical stunts or intimate contact without first talking it through with your director, stage manager, and any castmates involved.

Ensure that you are warmed up physically and vocally for your work in rehearsal.

Please be mindful of your personal health and take all steps to maintain and protect your wellness. Do not come to rehearsal with contagious illnesses. Notify your director of any illnesses or injuries as soon as possible.
